About the Annual Meeting

The Compact Annual Meeting is held between key stakeholders and reviews the progress in the development and implementation of the national Compact and Local Compacts. It also agrees on an action plan on how to take the Compact forward for the year.

The Commission for the Compact coordinates the Compact Annual Meeting working with Compact Voice and the Office of the Third Sector on setting and implementing a Joint Compact Action Plan 2008-2009 [PDF 610KB, 27 pages]

The Joint Compact Action plan for 2008/9 was accepted at the 8th Annual Meeting to review the Compact on relations between Government and the Voluntary and Community Sector in England. The Joint Compact Action Plan sets out a programme of work for 2008/9 designed to:

• Strengthen relationships and partnerships at national level, to deliver the national Compact
• Strengthen relationships and partnerships at local level, supported by Local and Regional Compacts and Compact Action Plans
• Increase understanding of the role of the Compact in promoting equality and community cohesion
• Strengthen the independence, voice and campaigning work of the third sector
• Ensure the continued relevance of the Compact in a changing legislative and policy environment

The Commission for the Compact, Compact Voice and the Office of the Third Sector will work with the Local Government Association (LGA), Communities and Local Government (CLG) and other stakeholders from January to March 2008 to produce a more detailed implementation plan. The implementation plan will include specific tasks, indicators and measures.

Records of the Annual Report 2006/7 and previous Annual Meetings are included on the Compact Voice website who coordinated previous meetings (2000/6) with the Office of the Third Sector.

Compact Annual Meeting Commendations are issued each year to recognise Compact excellence. A record 28 were awarded in 2006, 23 in 2007 and over 80 commendations have been awarded since 2003.
