Local issues

Most relationships between government, public and voluntary sectors happens at the local level, we're working with all our stakeholders to ensure that the Compact remains at the heart of these relationships, boosts partnership working and creates better outcomes for local areas and communities.

Local Government White Paper and Bill
The Commission welcomes government commitments in the Local Government White Paper and the Bill currently going through Parliament that authorities’ partnership performance will be covered in the new systems for local government performance assessment.

Also welcome are proposals to clarify and strengthen arrangements for involving the third sector in Local Strategic Partnerships and Local Area Agreements. To be effective, the systems and statutory guidance that are being prepared to deliver these changes must reflect Compact principles.

We are currently working with the Department for Communities and Local Government to help achieve this.
